No ,this does not violate the law of conservation of energy. The law of conservation of energy states that energy can neither be created nor be destroyed, it can only be transformed from one form to another. The total energy before and after the work remains the same . When an object is at rest it's kinetic energy is 0 but it's potential energy is mgh. when the objects starts to fall freely it's potential energy decreases but on the same time it's kinetic energy increases . It means that the sum of the potential energy nd the kinetic energy is always constant or same .

The potential energy of a freely falling object decreases and its kinetic energy increases progressively.So ,in this way the total mechanical energy remains constant .Thus, the law of conservation of energy is not violated.
