Let the preceding term of 13 in given AP is x .

so,

→ AP series = x , 13, 10 , 7 ____

here,

• First term = a1 = x
• second term = a2 = 13
• third term = a3 = 10
• fourth term = a4 = 7

then, we can conclude that,

→ common difference = a2 - a1 = a3 - a2 = a4 - a3

→ common difference = 13 - x = 10 - 13 = 7 - 10

therefore,

→ 13 - x = 10 - 13

→ 13 - x = (-3)

→ x = 13 + 3

→ x = 16 (Ans.)

Hence, the preceding term of 13 in given AP will be 16 .
