Answer :

Six years later,

Man's age : Son's age = 5 : 2

Step-by-step explanation :

Let the present age of his son be x years

  • The present age of a man is three times that of his son.

          The present age of the man = 3x years

  • Six years ago,

        Son's age = (x-6) years

       Man's age = (3x-6) years

Given,

Six years ago, the age of the man  was four times that of his son

                3x - 6 = 4(x - 6)

                3x - 6 = 4x - 24

                4x - 3x = 24 - 6

                       x = 18

The present age of Son = 18 years

The present age of Man = 3(18) = 54 years

  • 6 years later,

        Son's age = 18 + 6

                         = 24 years

        Man's age = 54 + 6

                          = 60 years

the ratio of their ages 6 years later,

        \frac{Man's \ age}{Son's \ age} =\frac{60}{24} \\\\ .\ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ =\frac{5}{2}

\boxed{\bf Man's \ age : Son's \ age=5:2} \ \ \text{(six years later)}
