Let present age of son be x.

Let present age of father be 4x.

After 10 years.

Age of son = x+10

Age of father = 4x+10

According to question

4x + 10 = 3(x+10)

4x + 10 = 3x+30

4x - 3x = 30 -10

x = 20

So, present age of son = x=20

And present age of father = 4x = 20×4 = 80
Hope it will help you

Answer:

Father is 80 years old and son is 20 years old.

Step-by-step explanation:

Given :

Present age of father = four times the age of his son

After 10 years = Father will become three times the age of his son

To find :

Present age of father

Solution :

\textbf{\small{\underline{Let the present ages be - }}}

  • Son as x
  • Father as 4x

\textbf{\small{\underline{After 10 years - }}}

  • Son = (x + 10)
  • Father = (4x + 10)

\textbf{\small{\underline{According to the Question -}}}

After 10 years = Father will become three times the age of his son

\rm{\implies} \: (4x + 10) =3(x + 10) \\ \rm{\implies} \: 4x + 10 = 3x + 30 \\ \rm{\implies} \: 4x - 3x = 30 - 10 \\ \rm{\implies} \: x = 20

Son's present age = 20 years

\rule{300}{1.5}

Value of 4x

\rm{\implies} \: 4(20) \\ \rm{\implies} \: 80

Father's age = 80 years old

\therefore Father is 80 years old and son is 20 years old.
