Given :

• Present age of Merra and her brother is in the ratio 6:5

• Four years ago,the ratio of their age was 4:3

To Find :

• Present age of Merra and her brother

Solution :

Let Merra's present age be 6x and his brother be 5x

4 years ago :

★ Merra's age = 6x - 4

★ Brother's age = 5x-4

According to the Question :

 \longrightarrow \sf \:  \dfrac{6x - 4}{5x - 4}  =  \dfrac{4}{3}

 \longrightarrow \sf \:  3(6x - 4) = 4(5x  -  4)

 \longrightarrow \sf \:  18x - 12 = 20x - 16

 \longrightarrow \sf \:  18x - 20x = - 16 + 12

 \longrightarrow \sf \:   - 2x =  - 4

 \longrightarrow \sf \:   x =   \cancel\dfrac{ - 4}{ - 2}

 \longrightarrow \sf \red{ x = 2}

We've assumed the age of Merra and his brother as 6x and 5x. Let's find their present ages by putting x = 2

 \bigstar \boxed{ \purple{ \sf Merra's \:  age  = 6(2) = 12 \: years}}

 \bigstar \boxed{ \purple{ \sf \: Brother's \:  age  = 5(2) = 10 \: years}}

ANSWER :

Meera's present age is 12 years and her brother's present age is 10 years.

EXPLANATION :

Given :-

  • Present age of merra and her brother are in the ratio 6:5.
  • Four years ago, the ratio of their ages was 4.3.

To find :

  • Their present ages.

Solution :

Let Meera's present age be 6x years and her brother's present age be 5x years.

4 years ago,

☆Meera's age = (6x-4) years.

☆Her brother's age = (5x-4) years.

Four years ago, the ratio of their ages was 4.3.

According to the question,

\sf{(6x-4):(5x-4)=4:3}

\implies\sf{\frac{6x-4}{5x-4}=\frac{4}{3}}

\implies\sf{20x-16=18x-12}

\implies\sf{20x -18x=16-12}

\implies\sf{2x=4}

\implies\sf{x=2}

✞ Putting the value of x = 2

Meera's present age=6 × 2 = 12 years.

Her brother's present age=5×2 = 10 years.
