Answer :

  • Present age are 15 years and 45 years

Given :

  • The present age of mother and daughter is in the ratio 3:1
  • After 5 years, if the ratio of their age will be 5:2

To find :

  • Present age

Solution :

Given,

The present age of mother and daughter is in the ratio 3:1 so,

  • Let the age of mother be 3x
  • Let the age of daughter be x

After 5 years,

  • Age of mother would be 3x + 5
  • Age of daughter would be x + 5

And also Given, that After 5 years if the ratio of their age will be 5:2 so,

  • 3x + 5 / x + 5 = 5/2

Substituting the value:

⇢ 3x + 5 / x + 5 = 5/2

⇢ 2(3x + 5) = 5(x + 5)

⇢ 6x + 10 = 5x + 25

⇢ 6x - 5x = 25 - 10

⇢ x = 15

Hence , x = 15

Finding the present age :

⇢ Age of Daughter = x

Age of daughter = 15 years

⇢ Age of mother = 3x

⇢ Age of mother = 3(15)

Age of mother = 45 years

Hence , Present age are 15 years and 45 years

Verification :

⇢ 3x + 5 / x + 5 = 5/2

⇢ 3(15) + 5 / 15 + 5 = 5/2

⇢ 45 + 5 / 15 + 5 = 5/2

⇢ 50/20 = 5/2

⇢ 5/2 = 5/2

Hence , Verified
