Given that,

The present age of son is half the present age of his father.

Let the present age of the father be 2x.

Therefore present age of the son = 2x/2 = x years

ATQ,

10 years ago, father's age was thrice as old as his son.

➡ 3(x - 10) = 2x - 10

➡ 3x - 30 = 2x - 10

➡ 3x - 2x = -10 + 30

➡ x = 20

Hence their present ages are :-

  • Father's present age = 2x = 40 years

  • His son's present age = x = 20 years

Answer:

Suppose the age of son= x.

and the age of father = 2x.

10 years ago the father was thrice as old as his son.

= 3(x - 10) = 2x - 10

= 3x - 30 = 2x - 10

=3x - 2x= -10 + 30

= x = 20

x = 20.
