The sum of the present ages is 54

GIVEN

The ratio of present age = 5:6:7

Sum of ages 5 years ago = 39

TO FIND

Sum of the present age.

SOLUTION

We can simply solve the above problem as follows -

It is given,

The ratio of present age = 5:6:7

Let the common multiple be x

Age of 1st person = 5x

Age of second person = 6x

Age or third person = 7x

Sum of age 5 years ago = 39

(5x-5)+(6x-5)+(7x-5) = 39

18x - 15 = 39

18x = 39+15

18x = 54

x = 54/18 = 3

So,

Age of 1st person = 5 × 3 = 15 years

Age of second person = 6 × 3 = 18 years

Age or third person = 7 ×3 = 21 years

the sum of ages = 15+18+21 = 54

Hence, The sum of the present ages is 54
