Let the present age of Ram be 5x.

Let the present age of Shyam be 6x.

Five years ago,

The age of Ram = 5x - 5

The age of Shyam = 6x - 5

\rule {300}{1.5}

According to the problem

=> (5x - 5)/(6x - 5) = 4/5

=> 5(5x - 5) = 4(6x - 5)

=> 25x - 25 = 24x - 20

=> 25x - 24x = -20 + 25

=> 25x - 24x = 25 - 20

=> x = 5

.°. x = 5

\rule {300}{1.5}

Therefore,

Now, putting the given values of x.

The present age of Ram

=> 5x = 5 × 5 = 25 years

The present age of Shyam

=> 6x = 6 × 5 = 30 years
