GIVEN,

the present population of a village is 12100, increasing at a rate of 10% p.a.

TO FIND,

the population 2 years ago.

SOLUTION,

we know that the population of the village is 12100,

rate of increase is 10% p.a.

using the depreciation formula for decreasing population since we need population 2 years ago,

D= P( 1-\frac{R}{100}) ^{N}

here P= population, R= rate, N= no of years.

substituting the values,

D= 12100(1-\frac{10}{100} )^{2}

solving,

D= 12100 *\frac{90}{100} *\frac{90}{100}

D=  9801

HENCE THE POPULATION OF THE VILLAGE 2 YEARS AGO WILL BE 9801.
