The pressure in a liquid is different at different depths. Pressure increases as the depth increases. The pressure in a liquid is due to the weight of the column of water above. ... The greater pressure at the bottom would give a greater 'force per unit area' on the wall.

Pressure and depth have a directly proportional relationship. This is due to the greater column of water that pushes down on an object submersed. Conversely, as objects are lifted, and the depth decreases, pressure is reduced. ... The data show a direct correlation between an increase in depth and an increase in pressure.

Answer:

because the pressure exerted by a liquid is small just under the surface of the liquid.but as we go deeper in a liquid the pressure of liquid increases.as the depth increases the weight of liquid column pushing down from above increases and hence pressure also increases.
