Given info : The pressure of a gas 'X' is 6 atm when it occupies 2 L of the volume. If the pressure is increased to 9 atm.

To find : The volume occupied by the gas at the same temperature will be ...

solution : at the same temperature,

pressure of gas is inversely proportional to volume of gas. [ this is also known as Boyle's law ]

i.e., PV = constant

⇒P₁V₁ = P₂V₂

here P₁ = 6 atm, V₁ = 2 L , P₂ = 9 atm and V₂ = ?

so, 6 atm × 2 L = 9 atm × V₂

⇒V₂ = 12/9 = 1.33 L

therefore the volume of gas will be 1.33 L
