Correct Question :-

  • The price of a bat and ball is 340 rupees,when price of a ball is increased by 20% and price of bat is decreased by 20% then total price became Rs.316. find decreased price of a bat. ?

Solution :-

it is given that , the price of a bat and a ball is Rs.340 .

Let us Assume that, Price of a ball is Rs.x .

Than,

Price of a bat = Rs.(340 - x).

Now, we have given that, Price of ball is increased by 20%.

So,

Increased Price of Ball = x + ( 20% of x)

→ Increased Price of Ball = x + (20 * x/100)

→ Increased Price of Ball = x + 0.2x

→ Increased Price of Ball = Rs. 1.2x

And, we have given that, The Price of bat is Decreased by 20% .

So,

→ Decreased Price of Bat = (340 - x) - {20% of (340 - x)}

→ Decreased Price of Bat = 80% of (340 - x)

→ Decreased Price of Bat = {80 * (340 - x)} / 100

→ Decreased Price of Bat = Rs. (4/5) * (340 - x)

Also, Total New Price of Both bat and ball becomes Rs.316.

Therefore,

→ Increased Price of Ball + Decreased Price of Bat = 316

→ 1.2x + (4/5) * (340 - x) = 316

→ (6x/5) + (340*4 - 4x)/5 = 316

→ (6x - 4x + 340*4) / 5 = 316

→ 2x + 1360 = 316 * 5

→ 2x = 1580 - 1360

→ 2x = 220

x = Rs.110

So,

→ Price of a bat = Rs.(340 - x) = 340 - 110 = Rs.230 .

Hence,

Decreased Price of Bat = 80% of 230 = (80 * 230/100) = Rs.184 . (Ans.)
