Answer:

1.25

Step-by-step explanation:

Let original book price=X

Number of books that can be bought in 120 =120/x

Suppose the price increases by 0.25 paise. New price=x+0.25

No of books that can be bought in new price= 120/(x+0.25)

Now, this number is 16 less than the no of books that can be bought in 120 at ‘x’ price.

So, 120/x= 120/(x+0.25) + 16

Simplifying the above we get

8X^2 +2x -15=0

This is a quadraatic equation having two solutions, 5/4& -3/2. Ignoring negative value the answer is x=5/4

So orinal book price is Rs 1.25

Applying this with you question

120/1.25= 96

then price increase by 0.25 then price would be 1.50

120/1.50=80 (difference is 16)
