The price of a motorcycle is 44880 including tax (under GST) at the rate of
18% on its listed price. A buyer asks for a discount on the listed price so that
after charging GST, the selling price of motorcycle becomes equal to the
listed price. Find the discount amount in which the seller has to allow for

Answer:

The discount amount to allow the deal is Rs 6867 .

Step-by-step explanation:

Given as :

The price of motorcycle including tax = Rs 44880

Let The price of motorcycle = Rs x

The GST tax = 18%

Let the discount amount to allow the deal = Rs y

∵  price of motorcycle including tax = price of motorcycle + 18% of price of motorcycle

i.e x + 18% of x = rs 44880

or, x + 0.18 x = rs 44880

Or, 1.18 x = rs 44880

∴   x = \dfrac{44880}{1.18}

i.e  x = Rs 38034

So, The price of motorcycle = Rs 38034

Again

Listed price = Rs 38034

A/ Q , selling price = listed price = Rs 38034

Now, discount % = 1 - \dfrac{38034}{44880}

Or, d% = 1 - 0.847

Or, d% = 0.153

discount = 15.3%

So, The discount amount = 15.3% of Rs 44880

Or, y = \dfrac{15.3}{100} × Rs 44880

Or, y = Rs 6866.64 ≈ Rs 6867

i.e discount amount = Rs 6867

Hence, The discount amount to allow the deal is Rs 6867 . Answer
