Solution:

Let the actual price of article is x rupees(Excluding ST)

So, on adding x with 12% of x(ST)= 2016

So cost of article

$x + \frac{12x}{100} =2016 \\ \\ 112x = 201600 \\ \\ x = \frac{201600}{112} \\ \\ x = 1800 \: Rs$
Actual cost of article/Marked price is 1800 Rs.

2) If ST reduce to 7%:

Find 7% of 1800

$\frac{7 \times 1800}{100} \\ \\ = 126 \: Rs$
In that case customer has a loss of
$2016 - 1800 - 126 \\ \\ = 90 \: Rs$
