Let the weight of the pieces be pieces 3n and 2n.
Then total weight = 3n + 2n += 5n
As price is proportional to square of the weight,
(5n)² = 25n² = 40000 ==> n = 40
Cost of pieces will be (3n)² + (2n)²
Hence cost of pieces = (120)² + (80)² = 14400 + 6400 = 20800
Therefore loss = 40000 - 20800 = 19200
Then total weight = 3n + 2n += 5n
As price is proportional to square of the weight,
(5n)² = 25n² = 40000 ==> n = 40
Cost of pieces will be (3n)² + (2n)²
Hence cost of pieces = (120)² + (80)² = 14400 + 6400 = 20800
Therefore loss = 40000 - 20800 = 19200
