required ans is 44/100 or 0.44
Here
P(x fails) = 0.3 and P(y fails) = 0.2
since this is an independent event
therefore
P(x and y both fail) = P(x fails) • P(y fails)
= 0.3 • 0.2
= 0.06
Now P(either x or y fail) = P(x fails) + P(y fails) - P( x and y both fail) = 0.3 + 0.2 - 0.06 = 0.44 ✌️
