Answer:

Let the current ages of Daughter and Mother by X and Y.

Given X + Y = 38.

After one year, the ages and sum will be,

(X + 1) + (Y + 1) = X + Y + 2 = 38 +2 = 40.

Also given. mother age will be 4 times the daughters age

=> Y + 1 = 4(X + 1)

=> Y + 1 =4X + 4

=> Y = 4X + 4 - 1 = 4X + 3. —Eq1.

Now, X + Y = 38.

putting Y value from Eq1 in above statement we get,

X + (4X + 3) = 38

=> 5X + 3 = 38

=> 5X = 38 - 3 = 35.

=> X = 35/5 = 7.

Now, Y = (4X + 3) => 4(7) + 3 = 28 +3 = 31.

current ages of Mother and Daughter are 31 and 7 respectively.

Mothers are at the time of daughter’s birth will be

31 - 7 = 24.

24 yrs
