Let Shikha's present age be x years.

Shikha's age 5 years ago= (x- 5)years

Shikha's age 8 years later =(x + 8)years

Given: The product of her age five years ago and her age 8 years later is 30

(x - 5)(x + 8) = 30

x² + 8x - 5x - 40 = 30

x² + 8x - 5x - 40 - 30 = 0

x² + 3x - 70 = 0

x² + 10x -7x - 70 = 0

[By middle term splitting]

x(x + 10) - 7(x + 10) = 0

(x + 10)(x - 7) = 0

x + 10 = 0 or x - 7 = 0

x = - 10 or x = 7

since age can’t be negative,x ≠ - 10 , so x = 7  

Hence, the present age of Shikha is 7 years.
