Let the number be x & y
then,
according to the question,
xy=36.....,..i
and
x+y=13
x=13-y.........ii
putting value of x in equation i
xy=36
(13-y)y=36
13y-y²=36
y²-13y+36=0
y²-9y-4y+36=0
y(y-9)-4(y-36)=0
(y-9)(y-4)=0
(y-9)=0
y=9
(y-4)=0
y=4
If y=9
then, x=13-y
x=13-9
x=4
then, difference is
x-y
4-9=-5
If y=4
then, x=13-y
x=13-4
x=9
then,difference is
x-y
9-4
=5
