Answer:

 - 2 \frac{9}{20}

Step-by-step explanation:

To find:

The other rational number

Given:

Product of two rational numbers = -7/8

One of them = 5/14

Assuming:

Let the other rational number be x

Solution:

ATQ.

 \frac{5}{14}  \times x =  \frac{ - 7}{8}  \\  =  > x =  \frac{ - 7}{8}  \div  \frac{5}{14}  \\  =  > x =  \frac{ - 7}{8}  \times  \frac{14}{5}  \\  =  > x =  \frac{ - 98}{40}  \\  =  > x =  \frac{ -  49}{20}  =  - 2 \frac{9}{20}

Hence:

The other rational number =x= -2 whole 7/10

Verification:

LHS.

 \frac{5}{14}  \times  \frac{ - 49}{20}  =   \frac{ - 49}{14 \times 4}  =  \frac{ - 49}{56}  =  \frac{ - 7}{8}

RHS= -7/8

Therefore LHS=RHS

Hence ,proved

hope it helps......
