When water is added to calcium oxide, it will be converted to calcium hydroxide with the liberation of enormous amount of heat.  CaO+H2O=Ca(OH)2+heat  It is an exothermic reaction.  Calcium hydroxide is an alkali.  Hope it helps you.....❤

When water is added to calcium oxide (quicklime), it will be converted to calcium hydroxide (slaked lime) with the liberation of enormous amount of heat.


CaO+H₂O=Ca(OH)²+heat


It is an exothermic reaction.
