Answer:

(i) u = -29.4 m/s

(ii) S = 44.1 m

(iii) S = 39.2 m

Explanation:

Total time took in journey of ball = 6 sec

g = 9.8 m/s²

The speed of ball at highest point becomes = v = 0 m/s

Time took to reach the highest point = t/2 = 3 sec

We know,

v = u + at

(i) 0 = u + 9.8(3)

u = - 29.4 m/s (against gravity)

We know,

S = ut + 1/2 at²

(ii) S = (-29.4)(3) + 1/2(9.8)(3)²

S = -88.2 + 44.1

S = 44.1 m

Position after 4 sec = Maximum height - Distance travelled in 1 sec

(iii) S = 44.1 - [ut + 1/2at²] (As u = 0)

S = 44.1 - [1/2(9.8)(1)²]

S = 44.1 - 4.9

S = 39.2 m
