As particle size decreases, the rate of reaction increases. so reaction rate is linearly dependent on particle size. Smaller reactant particles provide a greater surface area which increases the chances for particle collisions so the reaction rate increases

The rate of reaction depends upon the size of particles of the reactants.

  • There are many significant factors which affect the rate of the reaction. And, the size of the particles of the reactants is one of such factors which affect the rate of reaction.
  • The size of the particle is inversely proportional to the surface area of the particle. And, the surface area of the particle is directly proportional to the rate of a chemical reaction.
  • That's why, we can say that rate of the chemical reaction is indirectly dependent on the size of the particles of the chemical reactants.
