Let the numbers be 11x and 9x,

11x + 9x = 40 \\ \\ = > 20x = 40 \\ \\ = > x = \frac{40}{20} \\ \\ = > x = 2

11x = 11×2 = 22

9x = 9×2 = 18

Total product = 22 × 18 = 396

Ratio of Number 1 : Number 2 = 11 : 9

Form equation:

Let x be the constant ratio

Sum of the numbers is 40:

11x + 9x = 40

Solve x:

20x = 40

x = 40 ÷ 20

x = 2

Find the two numbers:

11x = 11(2) = 22

9x = 9(2) = 18

Find the product of the two numbers:

product = 22 x 18 = 396

Answer: The product is 396.
