The ratio of distance to displacement made by an object moving in a curved path is greater than one.

  • Distance is defined as the length of the actual path covered by the object.
  • Displacement refers to the length of the shortest path between two given points.
  • Distance is always equal to or greater than the displacement.
  • It should be noted that the displacement of the object when it completes one turn is equal to zero as the initial position coincides with the final position.

Given : ratio of distance to displacement made by an object moving in a curved path

To Find   : Correct option

(A) zero (B) 1. (C) less than 1  (D) greater than one

Solution:

Distance is the actual path covered

Displacement is the shortest distance between two points

Distance = Displacement iff distance covered is in  straight line.

other wise distance > displacement

Here its given that  object moving in a curved path

Hence distance > displacement

=> distance / displacement  >  1

Hence The ratio of distance to displacement made by an object moving in a curved path is greater than one
