Step-by-step explanation:

Given :-

The ratio of Hydrogen and oxygen in water is 1:8

To find :-

The quantity of oxygen in 72 litres of water.

Solution :-

Given that

The ratio of Hydrogen and oxygen in water = 1:8

Let they be X litres and 8X litres

The quantity of Hydrogen = X litres

The quantity of Oxygen = 8X litres

Total quantity of both Hydrogen and Oxygen in the water = X+8X = 9X litres

Given that

The quantity of water = 72 litres

Therefore, 9X = 72

=> X = 72/9

=> X = 8 litres

Therefore, The quantity if Hydrogen = 8 litres

The quantity of Oxygen = 8X litres

=> 8×8 = 64 litres

Answer :-

The quantity of Oxygen in 72 litres of water is 64 litres

Information mentioned in above question :

  • The ratio of Hydrogen and oxygen in water is 1:8

What we have to find out :

  • The required quantity of oxygen in 72 litres of water

We know that :

Mass of 1 Hydrogen atoms

  • ➡ 1 gram

Mass of an Oxygen atoms

  • ➡ 16 gram

Mass of two Hydrogen atoms

 \rm \implies \: 2  \times   1 \:  gram   =  2  \: gram

Mass of 1 Oxygen atoms

 \rm \implies \:1 \times  16  \: gram \:  = \:  16  \: gram

On adding all the above-obtained values we get,

➡ Mass of water

 \rm \implies 2  \: gram  +  16 \:  gram  = 18  \: gram

Calculation :

\displaystyle\implies \rm  \dfrac{16}{18} \times 72

\displaystyle\implies \rm  \dfrac{16 \times 72}{18}

\displaystyle\implies \rm  \dfrac{1152}{18}

\bf\implies  64
