Given ratio of lions and tigers = 1 : 3

since, they have constant ratio

let the constant ratio be 'x'

let the number of lions be ' 1x '

and number of tigers be ' 3x '

according to the given statement :
------------------------------------------------
number of lions = 4

1x = 4 => x = 4

number of tigers = 3x = 3 × 4 = 12

therefore,

there are 12 tigers in the zoo.

Answer : tigers = 12
