Here magnitude of displacement is always smaller than magnitude of distance.

Also its magnitude can be equal to distance if it travels in a straight line path.
In the above case the magnitude of displacement and magnitude of distance will be equal to one.
So here the magnitude of displacement is in numerator and magnitude of distance in denominator..
So the fraction is always less than one or equal to one.
