Given that the ratio of milk and water in a mixture = 4 : 3

let the constant ratio be 'x'

so now let the quantity of milk and water be 5x L and 3x L

since , given that 146 litre (L) water was added to the mixture , so now

Find new quantity of water in the mixture:
__________________________
new quantity of water =( 3x + 146 ) L

according to question

after adding 146L water in the mixture then new ratio of milk and water is 8 : 7

4x : (3x + 146) = 8 : 7

4x /(3x + 146) = 8 / 7

7 × 4x = 8 ( 3x + 146 )

28x = 24x + 1168

28x - 24x = 1168

4x = 1168

x = 292

quantity of milk in the original mixture

=4x = 4 × 292 = 1168 L

therefore ,
quantity of milk in the original mixture
= 1168 litre

M:W=4:3...(1)

When 6L is added to the mixture

⇒ \frac{M}{W+6}  =  \frac{8}{7}

⇒7M=8W+48...(2)

From Eq(1)

 M=  \frac{4W}{3}

putting value of M in (2)

⇒7 \frac{4W}{3} =8W+48

⇒W=36

Using

⇒ M= \frac{4W}{3}

⇒M=48
