The condition before neutralization,
mili moles of HCl = 50 * 0.4 = 20
mili moles of NaOH = 50 * 0.2 = 10
Following is the situation after neutralization,
mili moles of NaOH = 0
mili moles of HCl = 10
Now, HCl gets dissociated into H+ and Cl-
Further, H+ concentration = 10/100 = 0.1 M ( as the volume of the solution is 100 ml).
Hence, by formula,
ph = - log (H+)
So, we get pH = 1, which is the answer.
