Hello Dear,

◆ Answer -

Degrees of freedom for translational motion = 3

◆ Explaination -

# Given -

γ = 9/7

# Solution -

Ratio of specific heat capacities for a gas is given by -

γ = (f+2)/f

9/7 = 1 + 2/f

2/f = 9/7 - 1

f = 7/2 × 2

f = 7

Here, total degrees of freedom for a gas are 7. But as we know maximum degrees of freedom for translational motion of any gas can be only upto 3.

Therefore, degrees of freedom for translational motion of given gas are 3.

* Remaining 4 degrees of freedom will account for rotational and vibrational motion of the gas.

Thanks dear. Hope this was helpful..
