The ratio of the length of the parallel sides of a trapezium is 5:3 and the distance between
them is 16cm. If the area of the trapezium is 960 cm", find the length of the parallel sides.​

Area of the trapezium = 1/2 × (sum of the parallel sides) × height

=> 1/2 × S × 16 = 960

so, the sum of the parallel sides = 120cm

Let the sides be in ratio = 5x : 3x where x is their common factor.

So 5x + 3x = 120cm

=> 8x = 120

=> x = 15 cm

Hence the length of the sides are -

3x = 3×15 = 45cm and,

5x = 5×15 = 75cm
