The present ages of Shubham and Rahil are 10 years and 14 years.

Given:

The ratio of present ages=5:7
The ratio of ages 4 years ago=3:5

To find:

The present ages

Solution:

Let the current ages of Shubham and Rahil be A and B, respectively.

So, A: B=5: 7.

A/B=5/7

A=5B/7 (1)

Now, their ages four years ago were as follows-

Age of Shubham 4 years ago=A-4

Age of Rahil 4 years ago=B-4

The ratio of these ages=(A-4): (B-4)=3:5.

(A-4)/(B-4)=3/5

5(A-4)=3(B-4)

5A-20=3B-12

5A-3B=20-12

5A-3B=8

From (1),

5(5B/7)-3B=8

(25B-21B)/7=8

4B=8×7

B=2×7

B=14

So, A=5B/7=5(14)/7=5×2

A=10

Therefore, the present ages of Shubham and Rahil are 10 years and 14 years.
