Answer:

father- 35 years, son- 10 years

Step-by-step explanation:

Let the common multiple of the ratio be x

then the present ages of the father and son respectively will be 7x and 2x

their ages after 5 years respectively will be 7x+5 and 2x+5

as 7x+5 = 8 and 2x+5 = 3, we get the equation =>

\frac{7x+5}{2x+5} = \frac{8}{3}

by cross multiplication-

8[2x+5]  = 3[7x+5]

16x+40 = 21x+15

transposing 16x to RHS and 15 to LHS

21x-16x = 40-15

5x = 25

transposing 5 to RHS

x = 25/5

x= 5

as the present ages are 7x and 2x,

the ages are =>

father- 7 x 5 = 35 years

son- 2 x 5 = 10 years
