Given :

The ratio of resistance of conductor at temperature 15°C to its temperature at 37.5°C is 4:5.

To Find :

Temperature coefficient of resistance of the conductor.

Solution :

★ We know that, resistance of a conductor depends on the length of conductor, area of cross section and temperature of surrounding.

Formula : R' = R(1 + αT)

  • R' denotes resistance of conductor at T temperature
  • α denotes coefficient of resistance

1. Resistance at 15°C :

  • 4x = R(1 + 15α)

2. Resistance at 37.5°C :

  • 5x = R(1 + 37.5α)

By taking ratio, we get

➠ 4x / 5x = (1 + 15α) / (1 + 37.5α)

➠ 4 + 150α = 5 + 75α

➠ 75α = 1

➠ α = 1/75

α = 0.013 °C‾¹
