To find the no. of widowers we need to find the total number of widows a nd widowers

so,

Let the total no. of both be x .

sum of ratios = 9+7=16

no. of widows

 = >   \frac{9}{16}  \times x = \: 22500

 =  > x =  \frac{22500}{9}  \times 16

=> x = 40,000

so the number of widowers

will be

 \frac{7}{16}  \times 40000

= 17500

Alternative method : 40000 - 22500 = 17500
