The ratio of two number is 6:11 the difference is 65 what is the smaller number

Let the larger number be x and smaller number be y.

Then According to Question,

  y/x = 6/11

11 y = 6 x

11 y - 6 x = 0                                         .................(1)

Also,

       x - y = 65                                       ..................(2)

From (1) and (2), Adding them,

(1) × 1 ⇒ -6 x + 11 y = 0

(2) × 6 ⇒  6 x  -   6 y = 390
                ______________

                            5 y = 390
                ______________

Then y = 78 and so x = 143
