Step-by-step explanation:

x:y = 3:4

x/y = 3/4

x = (3/4)×y................. (1)

(x-3):(y-3)= 1:2

(x-3)/(y-3)= 1/2

2(x-3) = (y-3)

2x-6 = y-3

2x - y = 6-3

2x - y = 3.........................(2)

2(3/4)y - y = 3

(3/2)y -y = 3

(3y-2y)/2 = 3

y =6

x = (3/4)6

x = 18/4

x = 9/2

therefore, the sum of two numbers is

x+y = 9/2 + 6

=(9+12)/2

= 21/2
