Let one number be 4M and other number be 1M.

If 5 is added to both the number. Then -

  • One number = 4M + 5
  • Other number = 1M + 5

After adding 5 to both the numbers, the new ratio is 3:1.

According to question,

=> \sf{\dfrac{4M\:+\:5}{M\:+\:5}\:=\:\dfrac{3}{1}}

=> \sf{4M\:+\:5\:=\:3(M\:+\:5)}

=> \sf{4M\:+\:5\:=\:3M\:+\:15}

=> \sf{4M\:-\:3M\:=\:15\:-\:5}

=> \sf{M\:=\:10}

\therefore \:\sf{One\:number \:=\:4M}

=> \sf{4(10)}

=> \sf{40}

\sf{Other \:number \:=\:1M}

=> \sf{1(10)}

=> \sf{10}

•°• Number are 40 and 10.

Verification

From above calculations M = 10

Substitute value of M in this :

\sf{\dfrac{4M\:+\:5}{M\:+\:5}\:=\:\dfrac{3}{1}}

=> \sf{\dfrac{4(10)\:+\:5}{10\:+\:5}\:=\:\dfrac{3}{1}}

=> \sf{\dfrac{40\:+\:5}{10\:+\:5}\:=\:\dfrac{3}{1}}

=> \sf{\dfrac{45}{15}\:=\:\dfrac{3}{1}}

=> \sf{\dfrac{3}{1}\:=\:\dfrac{3}{1}}
