Answer:

The First world War started in 1914 after the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand at the hands of Serbian Nationalist Gavrillo Princip. Great Britain joined the war after Germany violated Belgian neutrality. The war dragged on for 4 brutal years and ended in November of 1918. Britain had the following reactions:-

  1. Most Britishers at the time were nationalist and wanted to make Germany pay for dragging the war. This led to severe economic sanctions and made forced Germany to pay a massivly impossible sum as war reparations to Britain and France.
  2. Great Britain and Its ally France defeated The Ottoman Empire and gained control of the Entire Levant region. Plans were made for establishment of a Jewish homeland (Israel) and the region was divided with creation of new countries like Syria and Iraq to be divided among Britain and its allys as colonies.
  3. While millions of men fought at the Frontlines, Women worked in the factories to create ammunition, weapons and dynamite among other war resources. Many got the nickname "canaries" due to the Blonde tinge the contact with explosives gave thier skin and hair. This eventually lead to Women Rights movements as they were no longer restricted to housework and had served the nation in a great time of need.

Explanation:

The reaction was overwhelmingly gray and no clear conclusions can be drawn whether its impact was positive of negative.
