The reaction given in option 4 does not produce benzoic acid as the major product.

  • KMnO4 is a very strong oxidizing agent so it oxidizes alcohol directly to carboxylic acid.It cannot be stopped at the aldehyde/ketone stage.
  • K2Cr2O7 behaves just as same as KMnO4 and also oxidizes alcohol directly to carboxylic acid.
  • The third option is an example of haloform reaction , first chloroform is formed as the reactant has a methyl keto group, which on hydrolysis yields carboxylic acid.
  • PCC is a poisoned oxidizing agent and it is used to convert alcohols specifically into aldehydes/ketones and not aloowing further oxidation to carboxylic acid.
