when aluminum is dipped in nitric acid a layer of aluminum oxide is formed on the metal. This happens because nitric acid is a strong oxidizing agent. The layer of aluminum oxide prevents further reaction of aluminum. Due to this the reactivity of aluminum decreases.

hope this will help you dear..
