The reduction in the speed of an engine is directly proportional to the square of the number of bogies attached to it. The speed of the train is 100 km/hr when there are 4 bogies and 55 kmph when there are 5 bogies. What is the maximum number of bogies that can be attached to the train so that it can move?

Answer:

5 should be the max number of bogies. on 6, its speed will be reduced to zero. train wont move. to be able to move, it should have 5 bogies at max.

Step-by-step explanation:

reduction = k x square of number of bogies.

45 = k (5²-4²)

45= 9k

k= 5

now for train to move with 6 bogies, reduction in spd should be less than 55 kmph...

55 > k (6²-5²)

55 > 5 x 11
