The refractive index of Crown glass and Flint glass are 1.52 and 1.65 respectively which will allow the light to travel faster? Give reason​

Light will travel faster through Crown glass.

Reason - Greater the refractive index, greater is the density of the medium and greater the density of the medium, lesser is the speed of light.

Refractive index of Crown glass =  1.52

Refractive index of flint glass = 1.65

To find,

Solution,

we know, the refractive index is inversely proportional to the speed of light in any medium.

Refractive index ∝ 1 / speed of light in any medium

Therefore, the greater the refractive index slower the speed of light in the medium. The higher the refractive index, the denser the material or medium.

Hence, the light will travel faster through Crown glass than that in flint glass.
