Answer:

The colors are visible colors to our human eye.

Usually we talk about seven colors of white light.

the glass as a refracting medium has a property called refractive index ( called mu), which is related to deviation produced in light ray of certain wavelength.

If we put white light as the incident ray then a prism of glass deviates the violet color with large angle and red one by the lowest.

therefore the refractive index of glass must be maximum for violet color.

Moreover the Prism of glass with angle A in a minimum deviation position has a relation for refractive index

mu = {Sin ( A +Dm ) /2}/ sin (A/2)

The Dm -deviation for violet color is largest therefore mu will be maximum for violet color.

If somebody uses the definition of mu related to speed of light in vacuum and in the medium

mu = c/v(medium) then

mu = {freq. wavelength(vacuum)} /{ freq. wavelength(medium)}

so mu , the refractive index will be maximum for violet as its wavelength is much smaller than red.
