X/y=3/2

y/z=4/3

Multiplying we get

x/y *y/z = x/z = 2

so z/x =1/2 is the answer

Given :

The refractive index of x with respect to y is 3/2 , n_{xy}=\dfrac{3}{2} .

The refractive index of medium y with respect to z is 4/3 , n_{yz}=\dfrac{4}{3} .

To Find :

The refractive index of medium z with respect of x i.e n_{zx} .

Solution :

The refractive index of z with respect of x is given by :

n_{zx}=n_{zy}\times n_{xy}

Here , n_{zy}=\dfrac{1}{n_{yz}}

So , n_{zx}=\dfrac{ n_{xy}}{n_{yz}}

Putting values in above equation .

We get :

n_{zx}=\dfrac{ 3\times 3}{2\times 4}\\\\n_{zx}=\dfrac{9}{8}

Therefore , the refractive index of medium z with respect of x is \dfrac{9}{8} .
