China has started encroaching upon India's space.
Nepal, Sri lanka, Maldives, Bangladesh and Bhutan are categorised as buffer states or within India's sphere of influence.
Buffer states like Nepal keep distance between India and China militarily. The removal of buffer states like Tibet in 1950s makes other countries (India) tense. It shows China has expansionist and aggressive plans.
Sphere of influence works the same way. The strong country wants its region to not have stronger nations.
USA being a superpower, extends its sphere of influence over both North and South America.
China's wilful encroachment has made India search for allies who can counter China like US and Japan.
