Originally the mariner had the respect of all the other crew members of the ship. this is evident when the mariner manages to convince his crew that the his killing of the albatross was justified and positive. But when his crew realized that he had committed a heinous sin by killing the majestic creature, their opinion of him dropped. This is evident when they hang the albatross around the mariner's neck to remind him of his shame.
